Augmented Reality Interactive Map for the City of Diest

Augmented Reality Interactive Map for the City of Diest

The goal of the project is to digitize the exhibition for the city of Diest using various technologies, including AR, gamification, deepfake, text to speech, and more. This will result in an innovative and interactive experience for visitors, allowing them to learn about the city's history, the fort, and bats in a fun and engaging way.

Interactive Map

To showcase the potential of the digital exhibition, we developed a Proof of Concept (POC) for an interactive map within an AR application. Leveraging the capabilities of Vuforia and Unity, we created a seamless AR experience where users could explore historical landmarks, view multimedia content, and engage with interactive elements.

Technologies Utilized

Vuforia

Vuforia is an Augmented Reality (AR) platform that enables the creation of interactive and immersive experiences by overlaying digital content onto the physical world. It provides robust tracking capabilities, allowing digital objects to accurately align with real-world objects or surfaces. Vuforia's computer vision technology recognizes and tracks images, objects, and environments in real-time, providing a seamless AR experience for users.

Unity

Unity is a cross-platform game engine and development environment widely used for creating interactive 2D and 3D content, including games, simulations, and AR/VR applications. It offers a comprehensive set of tools and features for game development, including rendering, physics, animation, audio, and scripting. Unity's intuitive interface and extensive documentation make it an ideal choice for developing immersive AR experiences.

Conclusion

With the right settings in Unity and Vuforia, developing an AR application is a plug-and-play process. Make sure all steps are followed carefully, and you should have a working Proof of Concept. Don't forget to regularly consult the official documentation of Unity and Vuforia for any updates and additional information.
